A Bright October Wedding in the Heart of Vermont

Today, we’re whisking you away to our favorite Vermont season: fall. It’s never too early to start daydreaming of a wedding where the air is crisp, and the foliage paints a masterpiece of fiery reds, warm golds, and vibrant oranges. We’re swooning over this couple’s perfect fall wedding at Mountain Top Resort, full of sweet elements and a beautiful color palette. Thank you to skilled wedding photographer, Sally Carpenter Photography, for sharing Corey and Tori’s love story with us. Continue reading for more details on this romantic day!

The Inspiration Behind The Couple's Color Palette

When Corey and Tori started planning their Vermont wedding, they never imagined it would turn into the moody, fall-themed celebration it became. Corey had always expressed wanting to wear a tweed vest for their special day, something that is not typically a groom’s first choice when it comes to formal wear! With that wish in mind, Tori started thinking outside of the box and found a beautiful tartan wrap. She knew it would pair perfectly with Corey’s style choice, and as an interior designer, Tori took the inspiration to the next level. The result? A wedding theme the couple lovingly dubbed ‘tartan and tweed’!

This concept pulled together typical fall elements and colors, and then turned them up a notch resulting in hues like deep wine, berry and burgundy with nods of green. (Spoiler alert: this is a lovely, fresh take on an autumn color palette and we are in love with it.)

On the couple’s wedding day, both Tori and Corey got ready separately before meeting for first-look photos. Blush Vermont pampered Tori and her bridesmaids with exceptional treatment, ensuring that their hair was perfectly styled and their makeup exuded an ethereal and timeless aura.

A covered bridge pin, which was originally owned by Tori’s grandmother, was a precious keepsake as she had a profound admiration for Vermont’s covered bridges throughout her life. After her passing, the pin became an heirloom passed down to Tori’s mother. As a result, it served as Tori’s “something borrowed” on her tartan wrap during this special day.

Over at the groom’s suite, Tori’s father exchanged a gift with Corey. He purchased a sixpence and opted for the year 1956 as it was the year Corey’s grandparents tied the knot, adding an extra charming and family-oriented detail to the couple’s wedding day!

A Romantically Rustic Ceremony & Reception

In the embrace of rolling mountains, their peaks awash with the vibrant hues of fall foliage, Tori and Corey exchanged vows in a ceremony as breathtaking as the landscape surrounding them. The aisle commenced with aged barrels, symbols of time’s passage and the aging of love into something deeply beautiful. Atop these barrels rested lush floral arrangements, their colors and fragrances mingling with the crisp autumn air. Long farm benches and cream throw blankets welcomed guests to this picturesque setting, offering them a front-row seat to the union of Tori and Corey against the stunning backdrop of nature’s autumnal tapestry!

After the ceremony, guests made their way to Mountain Top Resort’s Event Barn, which was perfectly decorated for the occasion. The couple’s planner, Zoey Zariole, and Meadow’s Edge Floral Design dreamt up a romantic atmosphere complete with plenty of string lights, sleek votive candles, gold tea lights, and rich burgundy table runners. As a charming tribute to autumn, the couple opted to use petite, ivory pumpkins as their escort cards, adorably displaying the names of their esteemed guests and corresponding table numbers.

Following a night of lively dancing, guests had the opportunity to indulge their cravings for something sweet by savoring a delectable two-tiered cake crafted by Sweet Vermont Treats. We love the nods to Tori’s wedding bouquet that adorned the cake’s buttercream exterior.

Tori and Corey’s special day was so enchanting that the couple plan on moving to Vermont one day. Congratulations Tori and Corey on your beautiful Vermont wedding!

Gliding into Forever: A Winter Wonderland Wedding with a Hockey Twist

Prepare to have your hearts do a little victory lap because we’ve got a love story that’s cooler than a fresh Zamboni-cut ice rink. Picture this: a beautiful Vermont backdrop courtesy of Mountain Top Resort, a couple madly in love, and a pair of ice skates for each. Yes, you read that right! This adorable couple decided to ditch tradition and lace up their skates for a first look that’s as unique as their love for each other. We’re excited to share with you every heart melting moment, perfectly captured by Courtney Cania Photography.

The Unique First Look on Ice

When planning their quintessential Vermont wedding, Stacie and Greg knew they wanted to have a laid back day. On the morning of their big day, Stacie and Greg embraced the essence of Vermont’s winter, opting for warmth and authenticity over traditional bridal norms. Stacie’s choice to wear fur-lined boots instead of the expected high heels was a testament to the couple’s desire for comfort and practicality. (without sacrificing style!) The bridal party donned matching Vermont Flannel Company shirts while getting ready, a perfect and practical choice for a chilly February morning.

Something Stacie and Greg share a love for is hockey and they found a perfect way to incorporate this into their special day! Amid the serenity of Mountain Top Resort’s ice rink, Stacie and Greg laced up their skates and created an unforgettable first look, infused with personal meaning and their shared passion. With the crisp air surrounding them, they glided toward one another to show off their wedding day attire. The scene was beautifully surreal, with their reflections dancing on the ice beneath them. (We’re melting over here!)

Crafting a Winter Wonderland Theme

The outdoor festivities didn’t stop there. Over at the venue’s terrace, guests were greeted with long, rustic wooden benches and cozy flannel blankets from Vermont Flannel Company to keep them warm while they anxiously waited for the ceremony to begin. For their ceremony, Stacie and Greg chose a palette of navy, brown, and balsam- all which effortlessly mirrored the natural hues found in the forested surroundings of the Mountain Top Resort. The deliberate choice of snowy white blooms by Meadows Edge Floral Design, intertwined with balsam sprigs, added a layer of elegance and enriched the rustic feeling that a Vermont winter typically brings.

Upon entering the reception area, guests were whisked away to a enchanting, winter wonderland adorned with delicate string lights, flickering votive candles, and a luxe seating area by Wild Fern Boutique. Whenever guests needed a little pick me up, they gravitated towards the bar where signature cocktails awaited them. Stacie and Greg crafted unique libations to pay homage to their cherished  four-legged companions, Jet and Mika.

To wrap up an already magical day, Stacie and Greg opted for a mid-reception horse drawn sleigh ride, complete with a ‘just married’ sign of course. Congratulations, Stacie and Greg, on your magical day!

Tips for Creating a Memorable First Look

Creating a unique and memorable first look during your wedding can add an extra layer of intimacy and excitement to your special day! This moment, when the couple sees each other for the first time in their wedding attire, offers an opportunity for an incredibly emotional and personal experience. Here are three tips to make your first look uniquely unforgettable:

1. Incorporate Personal Elements: Think about what makes your relationship unique and try to include those elements in your first look. This could be the location where you first met or a spot that holds special significance to your relationship. You could also integrate something symbolic, like reading letters you’ve written to each other before turning around to see one another, or playing a song in the background that has meaning to you both. Personal touches like these will make the moment feel even more intimate and tailored to your unique love story.

2. Use a Creative Setting or Backdrop: While first looks are commonly done in the venue where you’re getting married, consider choosing a unique setting that differs from the typical wedding backgrounds. Look for interesting textures, vivid colors, or striking natural landscapes that will not only enhance the emotion of the moment but also create stunning visual memories. The key is to select a location that feels meaningful or exhilarating to you as a couple, setting the stage for a memorable first look and exciting rest of the day!

3. Plan a Surprise Element: Incorporate a surprise element for your partner into the first look to make the moment even more special. This could be anything from wearing an accessory or piece of clothing that has sentimental value, like a family heirloom. You might even involve your pets or loved ones in the surprise, creating a multi-layered experience that encompasses more than just the visual aspect of seeing each other. Whatever surprise you choose, ensure it’s something that it is meaningful to your partner adding a layer of emotional depth to the first look experience.

Remember, the goal of a first look is to craft a moment that feels deeply personal and meaningful to both of you. By focusing on personalization and the element of surprise, you’re setting the stage for an unforgettable experience that celebrates your individual love story in a way that feels authentic and uniquely you!

This Mountain Top Resort Wedding Was a True Winter Wonderland

Nothing is more romantic than freshly fallen snow in Vermont, especially when it happens on your wedding day! This December wedding at Mountain Top Resort checks off all of the boxes: snow, twinkle lights, cozy flannels, gorgeous florals by M’s Wedding Flowers, and a packed dance floor that surely kept guests warm all evening long.

Amy and Adam’s wedding was made even more beautiful by the incredible work of Idena Beach Photography and we’re excited to share all the timeless photos and details with you below!

Saying 'I Do' in the Snow: An Unforgettable Winter Wedding

Amy and Adam’s wedding weekend started out quite mild for Vermont in December. Mountain Top Resort had not a single snowflake, mostly fading patches of grass. That all changed on the morning of the wedding when it started snowing, snowing, and… snowing, until the entire mountain was covered in nearly 14 inches of snow!

Although not expected, Amy, Adam and all of their guests embraced the weather in style! Amy wore snow boots under her wedding dress and the couple utilized clear umbrellas to shield themselves from the snow. (Pro tip: Clear umbrellas are great for rainy or snowy days. They allow whatever light you have to still come through to help out your photographer and they keep you cool or dry outdoors!) Adam wore an emerald green jacket and bowtie, which pulled together the couple’s elegant winter color scheme.

The Event Barn at Mountain Top Resort was the perfect space for both the ceremony and reception. Everywhere guests turned were gorgeous floral arrangements by M’s Wedding Flowers, strings of sparkly twinkle lights and candles. Over on the dance floor, the energy was unmatched! Adam and Amy’s dad had a one hand push up contest and guests enjoyed a few shot skis. Amy even changed into a fun jumpsuit as the evening went on!

Everyone loved that they had to “hunker down” together and stay indoors, celebrating Amy and Adam all day. It may have been a chilly day, but the love and energy captured are nothing short of heart warming!

Yes! As an all-inclusive venue, we offer a few different ceremony sites, from our Wedding Knoll, to our Terrace, to the loft or more intimate areas that include our view of the Green Mountains. Receptions can be held in our Event Barn, in our Restaurant, or at our Beach Pavilion (weather depending). All of these areas provide spectacular views, creating the perfect backdrop to your special day.

The amenities: What do you include?

In the summer, you’ll be able to enjoy our outdoor heated swimming pool, a private beach, and 740 acre lake. During the winter months, we have cross country skiing, snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and more!

The Location: What is There to Do in the Local Area?

We’re a short drive to Killington, but being remote has its perks! Set on 700 private acres, we offer hiking, cross country skiing, clay bird shooting, pontoon boat cruises, ice skating, and more. We have a complimentary shuttle that is also available to take you to Killington for your downhill skiing adventures.

The History: What Is the Venue’s Story?

Centrally located in Chittenden, Vermont, Mountain Top Resort originally started as Mountain Top Inn, a converted barn from the Long Family’s turnip farm founded in the 1870s. In the 1940s, Mr. William Barstow purchased the farm, and turned it into a full-service Inn & Tavern.

From there, William and Margery Wolfe purchased the Inn in 1945, and a few years later in 1954, developed a cross country ski center and trail system that is one of the oldest in the country today with over 60 kilometers of trails. Investors later bought the Inn in the 2000s, and had turned into Mountain Top Resort – one of Vermont’s sought after destination weddings and resort.

The fit: Who are your ideal clients?

With multiple ceremony sites to choose from, along with reception areas, we believe this is the right fit for anyone. Our venue can fit 280 in our Event Barn, but we offer smaller, more intimate areas as well. With an in-house floral team, on-site spa + salon, along with dedicated wedding planners, accredited culinary/service staff, and luxury lodge, cabin & guest house accommodations on site, the idea of all-inclusive starts from the moment you arrive.
