A Relaxed and Intimate Celebration at Grand Isle Lake House

Tucked away in the Champlain Islands on the pristine waters of Lake Champlain, you’ll find the charming Grand Isle Lake House. This remarkable venue paints a picture of tranquility and charm, setting the stage for a romantic, intimate wedding like no other! When planning their wedding, Lucy and Russell knew Grand Isle Lake House would be the perfect backdrop for their vision of a laid back garden party celebration and we are excited to share it with you all today.

An Unforgettable Garden Party Wedding

In a world filled with extravagant wedding decor and elaborate themes, this garden party wedding at the Grand Isle Lake House embraced simplicity in the most beautiful way. Lucy and Russell, alongside their wedding planner Willow Hill Design Co., intentionally opted for a clean and minimalistic aesthetic, allowing the natural beauty of the Champlain Islands to take center stage during their ceremony.

A beautiful ground floral arch, designed by Clayton Floral, was made up lush greenery and soft hues of green, white, peach and purple.

We also have to take a moment to highlight the couple’s style. Lucy donned a sleek and timeless A line gown and a natural makeup look by Jennifer Perellie MakeupRussell went for a twist on his formal wear, sporting a green suit. The wedding party, on both sides, adorned hues of green, gray, and blue, which flawlessly accentuated the stunning surroundings of the outdoor nuptials.

An Intimate and Relaxed Reception

To get the party started, a  4- piece band played for guests on the Grand Isle Lake House’s scenic wraparound porch during cocktail hour.

Lucy and Russell’s August celebration was beautifully adorned with customized menus, floral bunting flags, and a dried wildflower escort display created by RH Design House, embodying the perfect balance of casual and elegance throughout the entirety of the day.

Over at the reception tent, a symphony of scents filled the air as terracotta pots filled to the brim with fresh lavender were placed strategically throughout. The vibrant purple hues of the lavender contrasted beautifully with the earthy tones of the pots, creating an eye-catching feature around the stage and dance floor. The décor, while grand in its display, was thoughtfully designed to amplify the natural charm of the venue rather than overshadow it.

Off to the side of the reception tent was a seating area complete with bistro lighting for guests looking to escape the lively dance floor and partake in casual conversation. As the night progressed, the laughter grew louder, the conversations deeper, and the connections stronger.

This memorable gathering was more than just a wedding; it was a celebration of love and unity that is sure to be fondly remembered for years to come!

This DIY Vermont Wedding Combined Cultural Traditions in a Beautiful Way

Love was in the air in when Savannah and Dr. James Liu tied the knot at Riverside Farm in Pittsfield, Vermont. Growing up, Savannah had always imagined a wedding in the picturesque state of Vermont where she was born and had spent countless summers. And with James by her side, her dreams finally came true in an unforgettable celebration surrounded by family and friends.

Creating Personal Touches with DIY Projects

When the Savannah and James began the wedding planning process, the most important thing to them was that the wedding weekend felt intentional and incorporated aspects from both American and Taiwanese culture. What better way to do this than to craft many of the elements themselves?

Let’s start with their handmade invitation suite. Savannah had the idea to incorporate postage stamps that nodded to different elements of their journey. These included stamps from Washington DC, where James proposed, to an ambulance, to reflect James’s career as a doctor.

One of the biggest projects Savannah worked on was a Senbazuru display. Senbazuru, also known as one thousand cranes, is an origami display considered as a symbol of good health, happiness and long life. This display was a stunningly beautiful tribute to Taiwanese culture and added quite the wow-factor to their reception decor!

The color red was used throughout the day in floral arrangements and in Savannah’s reception dress. Red is considered a festive color in Taiwan, symbolizing good fortune and happiness, which makes it a popular choice for celebratory occasions. Classic ivory linens provided by The Linen Shop helped this bold hue truly shine in every design element. Savannah’s bridal makeup, done by Jennifer Perellie, not only complimented her traditional bridal gown, but also her red reception dress. (Love!)

The wedding celebration was a perfect blend of heartwarming speeches, lively dancing with 802 Events spinning the right records all night long and playful moments captured in the photo booth provided by Pixel Pod. As the night drew to a close, guests gathered to witness a dazzling fireworks display before bidding farewell to Savannah and James in a magical sparkler exit!

Timeless Beauties

This couple’s style is as elegant as it is timeless! His black tux, from McNeil and Reedy and her embellished gown from Fiori Bridal, are stunning choices for their wedding at The Essex. (And if the arbor by Tipsy Tulip Designs looks familiar, it’s because it was a pick for the best florals of 2022!)

The Two for One

Just look at the ruffles on her skirt – how can you help but soon?! This Veilmonté Bridal Showroom gown had a surprise though; not only was it perfect for a romantic ceremony but the skirt detached revealing a sleak, ready-to-dance reception dress. Amazing.

Black Beauty

This bride was determined to show off her darker style in her wedding attire, and she nailed it! Her black lace top and dip dyed skirt combo are stunning. (She even painted her nails black to match!)

Shades of Green

Jaclyn Watson planned this stunning wedding which featured shades of green from the wedding party to the decor. This bridal party totally nailed the mismatched look with their coordinated green dresses. I especially love how their bouquets kept in the same green and white palette, perfectly complimenting the style.

Classy and Classic

I love this timeliness look by Fawn MUA! The subtle makeup and lush lashes compliment her traditional gown and beaded veil perfectly. Perfection.

French Fête

This couple’s celebration was inspired by classic French culture (they even shared their first dance to a classic French song!). The bride wore an off the shoulder gown, and the groom wore a white tux jacket. The elegant style was mirrored by their decor, including the lush florals by Anaphora Flowers. Each detail provided the perfect ambience for their intimate fête.

Nailing It

I love this close up shot of the bride’s bedazzled nails. The design is fun and glitzy, and the neutral color palette keeps it sophisticated. Hands down, a great look!

Quick recap: what is Vermont Weddings Best of 2021 Series?

A little backstory if you’re unfamiliar: we started the Best of series last year (2020) to highlight some of the amazing work by the talented teams in the Vermont wedding industry. It’s an opportunity to both celebrate a year’s worth of weddings and inspire couples who are planning a future Vermont wedding. Here’s what you can expect:

All December, we’ll be rolling out inspiring stories in various categories:

Every bride wants to feel confident on her wedding day, which is why a talented makeup artist plays a key role on your wedding day. Jennifer Perellie is an award-winning, internationally-published makeup artist. With over a decade’s worth of experience, she’s helped countless brides feel their best on their big day. She sat down with Vermont Weddings to share a bit about herself and how she became an in-demand makeup artist.

How did you get into wedding makeup?
I worked on counter for a big makeup company while freelancing on location for film and photoshoots. I booked a wedding through conversation one day, and completely fell in love with the whole experience! I knew right from the first wedding that it was a perfect fit for me. Luckily, the Vermont wedding industry is very welcoming, and it did not take long before I was working weddings full time. I feel very lucky to be a part of such a supportive and talented community.

How would you describe your style?
I truly think the most beautiful makeup is what I’d call enhancing makeup. I prefer a natural, fresh face that enhances a bride’s beauty. I excel in creating ethereal, perfectly-blended makeup with a subtle glow that stays put all day.

What inspires your work?
The power of makeup inspires me. I love how even the most subtle change or addition can make the biggest difference. For example, I love how a bold red lip can make me feel confident. Makeup not only sets the mood – it can change it completely. It’s really is a powerful tool that can be used to convey emotion. It’s also just so much fun!

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?
Definitely the moment the bride is done with her hair and makeup, gets into her wedding dress and sees herself in the mirror for the first time. It’s a wonderful moment to witness.

Any special tips for couples for choosing / working with a wedding makeup artist or about wedding makeup in general?
First I recommend that they look closely at portfolios. Even though makeup is creative, look for consistency in the work. Look for closeups, zoom in on the work and really see it! Look at the style of the work. If you gravitate towards their style that’s a good sign.

Professionalism is just as important as talent. Not only will you need a MUA who you can trust with executing your vision, you also need someone who is organized and responsive with communication and follow-through.

Investment is also important to consider. Price matches talent and experience. A seasoned makeup artist who excels in their field is going to be a bigger investment but it’s absolutely worth it.

Lastly, make sure you like your makeup artist and feel comfortable around them. You will be spending a lot of time together along with your closest family and friends on the morning of your wedding. It’s important to like who will be helping you all get ready during those moments before the ceremony begins.

What’s your favorite thing to do in VT?
My favorite thing to do is pack up my truck and head out for a day of kayaking.

If you weren’t a wedding makeup artist, what would you do?
Before my career in makeup I was a working mixed media artist. I have sold paintings all around the world. If it wasn’t for the creative outlet I have with makeup, I would probably still be painting professionally.

What’s a fun fact about yourself?
I have a painting on an album cover of the songwriter who wrote Taylor Danes “Tell It To My Heart”.

Laura and Travis, both native Vermonters, met their sophomore year at UVM and have been together ever since. When it came time to plan their wedding, they knew they wanted to tie the knot in the Green Mountain state.

Laura says she and Travis knew the The Inn at Round Barn Farm was their ideal venue. “The barn is in an idyllic setting, surrounded by lush greenery. And it gave us options to host outside or inside,” she says.

The couple partnered with planner Wink and Willow to bring their dream of a rustic barn wedding with modern, elegant touches to life. Other personalized touches included Laura’s dress change (complete with denim jacket), an appearance from the couple’s adorable pup, and a custom pink neon sign with their wedding hashtag. The result was, in a single word: stunning.

Every season has its own unique beauty, but there is something special about autumn in Vermont. For Lauren and Joe, the season offered the perfect backdrop to their October wedding the Barn at Boyden Farm. “We wanted friends and family, especially those who had never been to Vermont, to experience the beauty the Green Mountains has to offer!” says Lauren. “Being late October, we were blessed with both foliage and snow capped mountains.”

Lauren, originally from the Northeast Kingdom, and Joe, who grew up skiing in Vermont, met in Atlanta through mutual friends. They said it was a no-brainer to celebrate their wedding back in the state they both loved.

Vermont Fall Wedding Details

Because of the early chill, guests were greeted with blankets, hand warmers and spiked cider to stay warm during the outdoor ceremony, which took place under an arbor built by the bride’s dad with driftwood from her childhood home.

Some of the couple’s favorite moments were in the quiet, small details of the day. Joe fondly remembers watching Lauren walk down the aisle, noting her veil glowed in the evening sun. Lauren says her favorite moment was the vows. “Joe had rescued two kittens for me a year before we got married,” she explains. “and he had written his vows on a kitty card. I was so nervous, but when I saw the card, I couldn’t help but smile and feel at ease.”
