Meaningful Moments on the Pitch
Bri and Shannon’s story began years before they started dating. The two first met in 2018 at a rugby alumni game at the University of Mary Washington. Bri had returned as an alum to play in the game, while Shannon was still an active player on the team. They crossed paths that day, sparking a connection that would take a few years to fully come together.
In 2022, they reconnected in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and quickly realized just how strong their connection was. From that point forward, they were inseparable. Rugby remained a huge part of both their lives and their relationship, and before long they even joined the same team, creating countless memories together both on and off the field.
When it came time for Bri to propose, it only made sense that rugby would play a role. During a friends-and-family rugby match, with teammates and loved ones gathered around the pitch, Bri took a knee and asked Shannon to marry her. The moment perfectly captured the spirit of their relationship, surrounded by the community that first brought them together!
A Joyful Summer Wedding at Lake Morey Resort
Set along the shores of Lake Morey, Lake Morey Resort, offers a stunning backdrop for couples looking to celebrate with lake views, colorful gardens, and elegant indoor spaces. For many couples, like Bri and Shannon, one of the biggest draws is the ability to host and accommodate their guests all in one place, making it easy for everyone to relax, celebrate, and enjoy the beautiful Vermont setting together! The couple’s morning began with a relaxed getting-ready atmosphere filled with laughter and anticipation. Shannon’s bridal look came together beautifully thanks to makeup by Gillian Bergeron and hair styling from Identity Salon VT, who created a sleek bun accented with a braid. Bri also got ready onsite, adding a meaningful personal detail inside their suit collar was custom embroidery reading, “You’re a Dream,” a subtle and sentimental touch just for Shannon.
From the moment guests arrived, you could feel just how loved Bri and Shannon are by the people around them. They were surrounded by close friends and family, many of whom came from the rugby community that has played such an important role in their lives. It was a hot June day on the lake, and the atmosphere felt more like the perfect summer gathering than a formal event. There was constant laughter, hugs, and happy tears throughout the day.
Shannon and Bri’s ceremony took place in the resort’s Hemlock Gardens, a beautiful outdoor setting surrounded by lush greenery. Their arbor was elegantly decorated by Vermont wedding florist Honey Flora, adding a romantic touch to the garden ceremony. Afterward, guests gathered on the Lakefront Patio to enjoy cocktails, light bites, and sweeping views of Lake Morey.
Once the reception began, the energy truly took off. With so many rugby teammates in attendance, the dance floor quickly turned into one of the wildest parties of the year. Guests cheered, laughed, and danced nonstop, creating a celebration that felt less like a traditional wedding reception and more like an unforgettable reunion. One of the most unforgettable moments of the evening came straight from Bri and Shannon’s rugby roots. During the reception, their friends and teammates lifted them high into the air in a playful rugby lineout, tossing a signed rugby ball up to them.
As the night continued, the dance floor only got wilder. The summer heat and humidity made the floor a little sticky, but that didn’t stop anyone from going all out. (Easily some of our favorite moments captured from the entire day!) Thanks to Eaton Photo and second shooter K&E Photography, not a single epic moment of the dance floor was missed. When their wedding DJ, Mix it Up DJ, put on “Let the Bodies Hit the Floor, their rugby friends erupted into a hilarious, high-energy frenzy, turning the dance floor into a chaotic, laughter-filled celebration.
The evening ended on a magical note with a private last dance for the couple. As Bri and Shannon exited down an aisle of guests waving light-up streamers, a light rain began to fall, cooling everyone off and adding the perfect cinematic touch to the moment. Guests cheered as the couple disappeared into the night, marking a beautiful ending to a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
