It was a beautiful September morning when I visited Greg and Willie at Moose Meadow Lodge in Waterbury, Vermont. Greg greeted me with open arms before my feet hit the top stair of the Adirondack style porch. With Greg's welcoming smile, I knew that I was in for a treat this Monday morning. Upon walking through the door, you enter a cabin unlike any I have ever visited. This luxury log home's open layout draws you in and makes you feel warm and welcome instantly. My eyes immediately lead me to the kitchen.
I, for one, am a big fan of kitchens. To me, that is where all the action is - the heart of the home - the life, the breath, and the food! The center island topped with leathered black granite and the cabinets and drawers faced with bark and wood from actual Vermont trees. This kitchen has that WOW factor!
Willie and Greg meticulously designed the kitchen (and every inch of the home for that matter) for their guests' experience in mind. With this kitchen design, you do not feel like you are invading the innkeepers' space, you feel like you are part of the party. Over twenty years ago, Greg and Willie had a vision for their Bed & Breakfast, and they continue to fine tune the property, home, and experience for all their guests to truly enjoy.
At Moose Meadow Lodge, it is all about the experience. Walking around the main floor, every aspect of the decor tells a story - antique gaming photos, hunting and fishing trophies, books, artifacts and gifts from fond guests and friends. Many elements of the home come directly from the land it sits on. The wood for the outside deck was sourced from trees on the property. Even the hooks in the bathroom were hand-whittled from Moose Meadow trees! Each room has a different atmosphere and decor. I especially loved the Creel Room as that is where I learned what a Creel is! If you don't know what a Creel is, I will give you a hint...there are six of them in the photo below.
Even the bathrooms are adorned with treasures including fabulous murals by local artist, Dotty Kyle.
Outside, on the property, your experience grows. Enjoy a luxury breakfast prepared meticulously by Willie and served outside on the porch in good weather. Afterward, take a short hike up to the 12-sided gazebo to check out the view and sign the guest book. Spend the summer afternoon fishing for trout in the pond, swing on the hammock, and enjoy a campfire at the fire pit. In snowy months, go for a snowshoe (they have a great selection to chose from), and then enjoy hot cocoa by the fire.
And then there is the Treehouse overlooking the trout pond! This treehouse left me speechless (and that doesn't happen very often). I will let the photos do the easy work as you imagine that it is ten times more fantastic in real life! This is the ultimate Moose Meadow Experience...
