Danyelle and Vincent’s Hometown Love Story
Danyelle and Vincent grew up together in a town in Eastern Connecticut, and they attended the same school as well. For a long time, they were just close friends, spending most weekends together and taking the occasional vacation. They didn’t officially become a couple until March of 2022, and in December of the same year, they got engaged on a trip to Arrington Vineyards in Tennessee. Their love for weekend mountain getaways inspired them to plan the perfect Vermont weekend retreat for their friends and family. Since they had visited Vermont often, they knew the laid back lifestyle combined with the stunning mountains would be ideal for their wedding. While searching for a unique venue online, they discovered Wild Sugar Homestead and knew right away that it was the place for them!

Erik and Hallie, the owners of Wild Sugar Homestead, are known for their welcoming hospitality and willingness to collaborate with a variety of vendors. In August of 2022, Hallie and Erik were married at Wild Sugar Homestead, making them the first couple to be married there and forever tying them to their land. Their love story and dedication to stewardship of their acreage is heartwarming. The latest project for the homestead is bringing permaculture into the wedding industry, an environmentally conscious move to ensure that people provide for the land as the land provides for them.
For weddings, they offer a full DIY experience allowing couples to select their own vendors from Vermont or their home state. Hallie said that she is more impressed with how couples choose to decorate their barn every time, proving how much of a unique and personalizable space it really is. As well as being a steward of Wild Sugar Homestead, Hallie is one of Vermont’s top wedding and portrait photographers, meaning that you can have an onsite photographer who knows the land best. (A win-win!) All of these aspects make Wild Sugar an even more unique and sustainable wedding destination.
A Laid Back and Love-Filled Wedding Day
To kick off their wedding weekend, Danyelle and Vincent headed up to the top of Tucker Mountain to take in the 360 degree views from the summit. The couple got ready separately inside the 1960s era home that offered space for their friends and family as well, with its four bedrooms and 3,200 square feet. Danyelle’s makeup and hair was done by JW Artistry and her dress was purchased from Bridal Garden in Rhode Island. We love how Hallie was able to capture the intimate moments between Danyelle and her closest friends and family, as the bride prepared for her special day. The couple then chose to do a first look in one of the second floor bedrooms of the home before descending the rustic wooden staircase and heading to their outdoor ceremony.
The wedding ceremony took place on one of the lawns overlooking the sweeping mountains. We love how Wild Sugar Homestead uses a variety of chairs for seating, giving the ceremony a more eclectic and vintage feel. Vincent and Danyelle proceeded down a long path cut into the wild grass, accompanied by one of their parents. For their altar, they stuck to the rustic theme and went for two pieces of Y shaped wood with another piece of wood across it. For an accent, they added some dried leaves to blend in with the scenery. An extra touch that we think is unique is using leather bound notebooks for their vows, making them a permanent keepsake. As the newlyweds headed back towards their reception, a violinist was a couple of steps behind them, serenading them and guests.
For their reception space, the couple took advantage of Wild Sugar’s rustic barn, decorating it with bright florals, dried leaves, and warm lighting. Their desserts were catered by La Stellas Bakery, but their cheesecake was homemade by Danyelle’s aunt! Some of our favorite pictures by Hallie are of Danyelle and Vincent sitting close to each other on vintage chairs, soaking up the day and their love for each other. The light streaming through parts of the barn made the scene even more magical, and the slight grain in her photographs made them look as though they were plucked from a photo album. It is great to see how well Hallie’s work matches the energy of the homestead.
Vincent and Danyelle had a beautiful summer wedding at Wild Sugar Homestead, embracing the DIY aspect that makes the venue different from others. One of their favorite parts of the wedding was blending together vendors from Vermont and their hometown to create the perfect day for them. Congratulations Danyelle and Vincent!
