There are winter weddings in Vermont, and then there are weddings that fully embrace winter in Vermont. Megan and Adam’s wedding at Sleepy Hollow Inn was definitely the latter! Think snowy cross-country ski trails, cozy barn celebrations, cowbells, faux fur, and more than 10 homemade cakes because why settle for one? Their love of skiing was woven into nearly every part of the weekend, making this celebration feel especially true to them. And thankfully, Vermont wedding photographer Corinne Ryan Photography was there to beautifully document all of the snowy, joy-filled moments along the way.
A Proposal on Skis
After a winter with less-than-ideal snow conditions, a surprise spring storm finally brought the kind of snow Megan and Adam had been waiting for. Megan convinced Adam to take the day off so they could make the most of it and head out for a cross-country ski.
What Megan didn’t know was that Adam had spent the previous week buying a ring and planning a proposal. He had hoped to propose while skiing that winter, and the unexpected storm gave him the perfect opportunity.
Throughout their ski, Adam repeatedly suggested stopping at scenic overlooks, only for Megan to insist they keep going. When they finally reached a beautiful clearing overlooking the mountains, another skier unknowingly interrupted Adam’s next attempt. Eventually, Megan suggested heading back to the lodge via an ungroomed hill. Halfway up, she finally stopped for a water break. Adam realized this might be his last chance. When he grabbed his water bottle out of his bag, he also grabbed the ring and the rest, as they all say, was history!
Finding Their Vermont Winter Wedding Venue
When the couple began planning their Vermont wedding, they knew they wanted their love of cross-country skiing to be an integral part of the celebration. Their venue search began quite literally with Googling “cross-country ski wedding near me.” That search led them to Sleepy Hollow Inn in Huntington, Vermont. After looking through photos, Megan and Adam scheduled a visit and never toured another venue.
The ski trails just outside the barn immediately stood out, giving them the opportunity to incorporate snow, skiing, and the Vermont winter landscape throughout their wedding weekend. Just as important, Sleepy Hollow offered the nostalgic atmosphere they loved and remembered from childhood.
Rather than saving the festivities for the wedding day alone, Megan and Adam turned their celebration into a true winter weekend. The couple skied four days in a row while at Sleepy Hollow, inviting friends and family to join them on the trails.
On a chilly day in January, Megan and Adam geared up for their greatest adventure yet. With the help of Jubilance Salon, Megan got ready with her bridesmaids before heading out for a first look. Dressed for the weather in a faux fur shawl and carrying a beautiful monochromatic bouquet by Kingsley Floral Co., she bumped into cross-country skiers making their way along the trails as she headed to meet Adam. The love and excitement you can feel from those photos will melt your heart!
A Winter Wedding That Couldn’t Have Happened Anywhere Else
After couples portraits and group shots with the bridal party, it was time to head inside for the ceremony. Megan and Adam exchanged vows in Sleepy Hollow’s famous 17-sided Round Barn, with Heidi Read officiating their ceremony. Surrounded by the warmth and rustic character of the barn, guests could take in beautiful winter views toward Camel’s Hump beyond the property.
Following the ceremony, the Round Barn transformed into the couple’s reception space, allowing the celebration to continue in the same cozy setting. For their table numbers, Megan and Adam used cowbells, a familiar sound to anyone who has spent time around cross-country ski racing, where they’re traditionally rung by spectators cheering on competitors.
Skiing wasn’t the couple’s only shared love they wanted to bring into their big day. Megan and Adam also love to bake, and in the week leading up to their wedding, they baked more than 10 different cakes themselves to share with their guests. Rather than choosing a single traditional wedding cake, their dessert spread became another opportunity to share a piece of their lives with the people they cherish most.
Congratulations, Megan and Adam, on your beautiful wedding day!
