Purple and Pearls: A Vintage-Inspired Wedding in Sharon, Vermont

Cody and Madison wanted the perfect combination of old and new for their wedding to build a unique vintage chic aesthetic. The small details of their wedding at Gobeille Farm really came to life in their photographs by Sean Hood Photography, who made sure not to miss anything from their detailed wedding. From the lovingly restored barn that served as the perfect venue, to the charming DIY decorations that added a personal touch, every element of Cody and Madison’s wedding tells a story. Join us as we delve into the magic of their beautiful celebration and congratulate the newlyweds on their perfect day!

Modern Romance: Finding Forever on Tinder

Seven years ago, Cody and Madison met on Tinder, and he had the perfect response to her bio that said,  “tell me your favorite joke.”  From his response, Madison knew that he was the one that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. For their engagement, Cody planned a surprise vacation for them in New Hampshire, and refused to tell Madison where they were going or how long they were staying there. He proposed on a deck overlooking the beautiful Lake Sunapee.

Reflecting on the playful question from Madison’s dating profile, the couple had a clear vision when it came time to plan their wedding. They knew they wanted to create a joyful atmosphere, where guests felt at ease to laugh and indulge in some lighthearted fun.

A Pastel Summer Wedding Full of Purples & Vintage Charm

The morning of the wedding, everyone got ready at the property’s farmhouse, which was a great example of the vintage charm that the couple was looking for. Madison’s makeup was done by Sweet Face Beauty Company and her hair was done by Over the Wildmoon Salon.

Growing up, Madison had always been obsessed with the color purple and with pearls, so she decided to base the entire wedding around that theme. At first, Madison attempted to go for a trendy burnt orange color scheme, but we love that she stuck with her favorite color for her big day. All of the little details of this wedding are absolutely stunning including but not limited to: the mismatched purple glasses that adorned reception tables, the pearls in Madison’s hair (and veil!), and the purple seals on the cards denoting seating for the reception.

For the ceremony, the couple chose to host it on a lawn outside on the farm, with a pergola adorned by a draped purple sash and florals beautifully crafted by Vermont wedding florist M’s Weddings Flowers. Emily, the couple’s florist, did an excellent job of incorporating Madison’s purple into all of the bouquets, maintaining a cohesive theme for the entire wedding. Emily also created a small pocket boutonniere for the inside of Cody’s front jacket pocket, which added an extra matching touch for the couple. (This is a growing menswear trend that we are loving!)

Cody and the groomsmen looked especially dashing in their light gray suits with pastel purple floral patterned ties. We love how they used McNeil and Reedy, a family-owned Vermont business for their suits. The bridesmaids wore lavender dresses in a variety of cuts, which allowed them to all look stunning and confident. Despite messing up her vows during the ceremony, Madison realized that something like that did not ruin their wedding day and everyone got a good laugh out of it. Another personal touch that Madison added was finding vintage hankies for everyone to use during the ceremony, which added to the vintage feel of the venue.

An Iconic and Lively Wedding Reception

The bridal party had an absolutely iconic entrance that brought the couple’s reception to life. Madison’s brother and college roommate spent months planning for it, and decided to be birds (no one knows why). Her brother wore a blow-up eagle costume, and her college roommate wore light-up wings – which were a fun touch on the dance floor later that night.

To keep guests fueled for their fun-filled evening, the couple enlisted in Bloods Catering and Party Rental and 802 Cocktail Service. When it was time to truly get the party started, DJ Big Handsome was ready with music to bring everyone onto the dance floor! We love the fun accessories that guests and the couple used at their receptions, including colorful heart-shaped sunglasses and blow-up guitars.

As the night grew on, Madison and Cody tended to everyone’s dessert cravings. Palmer Lane Maple came with their famous creemee truck, and it was a hit, especially in the warm summer weather. Madison and Cody were even allowed to help serve their guests, and they loved getting the chance to be inside the truck, interacting with their guests differently. Sweet Vermont Treats brought Madison’s vision to life with a white cake that was covered in pearls- proving that something can be equal parts stunning and delicious!

This special day was all made possible with Madison and Cody’s vision and with the help of their stellar wedding planner, Katie of The Hoppy Wife. Together the crew did a great job of bringing Madison’s pearlescent lavender fantasy to life. The couple succeeded in having a fun filled wedding with many elegant, vintage-inspired details. Congratulations Madison and Cody!

Falling in Love: A Gorgeous Autumn Wedding at Sterling Ridge Resort

Located the perfect distance from Burlington, Stowe, and Smuggler’s Notch, three of Vermont’s top destinations, Sterling Ridge Resort creates a quintessential “summer camp” feeling for a wedding. By booking the “Ultimate Wedding Package,” at Sterling Ridge, Shannon and Tommy took advantage of being able to reserve all of the cabins on the property for their stunning late fall weekend wedding. Congratulations to the happy couple, whose love was beautifully captured by Ben Hudson Photography and White Mountains Wedding Photography! Continue reading for more details about their special day.

To welcome their guests to the Green Mountain State, Shannon and Tommy held a casual welcome party on Friday, opting to take advantage of the resort space. Karaoke, yard games, a taco bar, and a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck created the perfect Vermont welcome, especially with all of the vibrant foliage on display.

On Saturday morning before the ceremony, the couple enjoyed the resort’s high-end, A-Frame cabin by having both their first look and bridal party captured there. During their first look, Shannon and Tommy opted to share their personal vows, making the special moment even more intimate! Vermont wedding photographer Ben Hudson did a great job of capturing the beauty of the resort while maintaining focus on the couple themselves.

The Wedding Day: Elegant Florals and Warm Hues

The wedding took place on a beautiful lawn adjacent to the pond at Sterling Ridge, and the couple highlighted nature with simple, elegant decor. To keep the backdrop of Mount Mansfield and the fall foliage unobstructed, the couple asked Flowers by Nicole to do a floral ground arch, which ornamented the venue perfectly. As well as the arch, the couple chose to use church-style pews as seating for the guests, offering an elegant permanence. Their wedding planner, Katie of The Hoppy Wife, was married at Sterling Ridge the year before (and during the same weekend!) which meant that she easily understood how to make the resort into the perfect space for Shannon and Tommy. The bridesmaids wore mismatched dresses in various textures, all in similar golden hues that matched the warmth of the fall colors.

After the ceremony, the couple hosted their reception in a simple tent with intimate bistro lighting and long farmhouse-style tables. The space was also ornamented by floral arrangements and candles that transformed the space into something magical. Guests of all ages hit the dance floor – thanks to the amazing DJing by Talena at Premier Entertainment. We also love how Shannon stayed in her wedding dress for the entire night of dancing, proving that you don’t need a second dress to have fun! At the end of the night, the couple had a sparkler send-off from all of their guests, which was a charming way to celebrate the newly married couple.

Kirstin, the Marketing Manager at Sterling Ridge Resort, said that Shannon and Tommy were a perfect fit for the weekend-long wedding experience that the resort offers. Their quintessential Vermont fall wedding was a beautiful mixture of intimacy and radiated so much joy. Congratulations to Shannon and Tommy!

Where Romance Blooms: Celebrating Love At The Wilburton Inn

A little ways outside of the charming Southern Vermont town of Manchester lies a 30-acre resort that houses not one, but two stunning turn-of-the-century mansions. The Wilburton Inn combines a peaceful, remote feeling with easy access to the nearby quaint town of Manchester, for all the services one could possibly need for their wedding! We are excited to share the Wilburton Inn wedding of Carly and Zach, who had a perfectly planned day with the help of both Meesha Kropp and Wild Fern Boutique. Keep reading for all the sweet details of this couple’s beautiful day.

From Election Campaign to Detailed Proposal

Carly and Zach first met in 2018, when both of them were working on Andrew Yang’s 2020 campaign for president. Zach was the Campaign Manager and Carly was the finance director. From the moment she met Zach, Carly knew she liked him and told her friends that they were going to date. While working for the campaign, Zach was not aware of Carly’s crush on him or her plans to date him. (However, Zach eventually realized once he fell in love with her as well!)

Zach staged an elaborate proposal for Carly that involved a day-long scavenger hunt in their hometown of New York City, where her family and friends surprised her at her favorite places. The final clue was delivered via a cameo from one of the actors from Carly’s favorite show, the Gilmore Girls. When considering the destination for their wedding, Carly knew that she wanted to be married in Manchester, VT, which is where she grew up.

A Stunning Combination of History and Nature: All the Details of the Couple's Big Day!

On Friday night, their late summer wedding began with a bonfire and a pizza truck on the grounds of Wilburton Inn. On the morning of their wedding, the couple chose to get ready separately, with Carly taking advantage of the stunning bridal suite at Wilburton to perfect her look with hair done by Patty Bassett and makeup done by Delaney Tatro. After getting ready, the couple took in the peaceful setting of the Inn with an intimate first look before the ceremony. Their photographer, Ali Kaukas, captured Manchester’s stunning nature in all of its glory!

The wedding itself took place at a picturesque lawn on Wilburton’s property that is framed by gorgeous Vermont greenery. The altar was elegantly framed by two gray stone pots overflowing with pink and green hydrangeas, which perfectly matched Carly’s bouquet designed by Nancy Bishop.

Although August can be a rainy season in Vermont, Carly and Zach were lucky enough to have relatively good weather on their special day. There was little drizzle during their vows, but thanks to the thorough wedding planning by Wild Fern and Meesha, there were clear umbrellas ready in case of rain. The touching ceremony was officiated by a local pastor, Jim Gray. We love how the bridal party wore coordinating floral or pastel dresses that embraced the wedding’s setting, and how the groomsmen brought in a floral touch with their ties.

Dining and Dancing the Night Away in Style

For their reception, the couple took advantage of the Wilburton’s Marble Pavilion, a great dance floor for showing off your moves! Zach and Carly opted for the Silver Arrow Band instead of a conventional DJ for their reception entertainment. This lively band provided an exceptional atmosphere for the event!  Andrew Yang was also in attendance and gave a toast at their reception.

One of the guests’ favorite parts of the wedding was the delicious food that was catered by Alp Basdogan’s local Turkish restaurant Depot 62. There were many details that made the meal unique, including clay pots for the entrees, linen outfits for the servers, and menus for the guests.

As well as delicious Turkish food, the wedding boasted not one but two cakes from Fancy Pants that were beautifully decorated and represented the couple’s love perfectly. The first cake was shaped like a blue baseball hat that made a joke about how their relationship began through math. The second cake was a classic circular cake that used a special “semi-naked” frosting technique to show the layers of the cake.

Carly and Zach’s first dance was a homemade mashup of their favorite songs from artists such as Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Big & Rich, Fallout Boy, and Frank Sinatra. Later in the evening, Carly and Zach both changed into second outfits, which was a unique twist. Carly wore a strapless dress with comfy sneakers for dancing, and Zach wore high tops as well as a luxurious green velvet jacket. (Make sure to check out the fun detail of Zach’s jacket- an iconic Buffalo Bills themed liner, in the photo gallery below!) To wrap up their beautiful night, Zach played the piano and sang “Then” by Brad Paisley to Carly in front of guests, showcasing one of his talents.

Carly and Zach’s wedding combined the peaceful simplicity of Wilburton Inn with their fun-filled nature to create a beautifully balanced wedding. Many of the guests commented on how the toasts were some of the most sentimental and loving that they had ever heard, showcasing how heartfelt the couple’s wedding was. Congratulations Carly and Zach!

A Bright October Wedding in the Heart of Vermont

Today, we’re whisking you away to our favorite Vermont season: fall. It’s never too early to start daydreaming of a wedding where the air is crisp, and the foliage paints a masterpiece of fiery reds, warm golds, and vibrant oranges. We’re swooning over this couple’s perfect fall wedding at Mountain Top Resort, full of sweet elements and a beautiful color palette. Thank you to skilled wedding photographer, Sally Carpenter Photography, for sharing Corey and Tori’s love story with us. Continue reading for more details on this romantic day!

The Inspiration Behind The Couple's Color Palette

When Corey and Tori started planning their Vermont wedding, they never imagined it would turn into the moody, fall-themed celebration it became. Corey had always expressed wanting to wear a tweed vest for their special day, something that is not typically a groom’s first choice when it comes to formal wear! With that wish in mind, Tori started thinking outside of the box and found a beautiful tartan wrap. She knew it would pair perfectly with Corey’s style choice, and as an interior designer, Tori took the inspiration to the next level. The result? A wedding theme the couple lovingly dubbed ‘tartan and tweed’!

This concept pulled together typical fall elements and colors, and then turned them up a notch resulting in hues like deep wine, berry and burgundy with nods of green. (Spoiler alert: this is a lovely, fresh take on an autumn color palette and we are in love with it.)

On the couple’s wedding day, both Tori and Corey got ready separately before meeting for first-look photos. Blush Vermont pampered Tori and her bridesmaids with exceptional treatment, ensuring that their hair was perfectly styled and their makeup exuded an ethereal and timeless aura.

A covered bridge pin, which was originally owned by Tori’s grandmother, was a precious keepsake as she had a profound admiration for Vermont’s covered bridges throughout her life. After her passing, the pin became an heirloom passed down to Tori’s mother. As a result, it served as Tori’s “something borrowed” on her tartan wrap during this special day.

Over at the groom’s suite, Tori’s father exchanged a gift with Corey. He purchased a sixpence and opted for the year 1956 as it was the year Corey’s grandparents tied the knot, adding an extra charming and family-oriented detail to the couple’s wedding day!

A Romantically Rustic Ceremony & Reception

In the embrace of rolling mountains, their peaks awash with the vibrant hues of fall foliage, Tori and Corey exchanged vows in a ceremony as breathtaking as the landscape surrounding them. The aisle commenced with aged barrels, symbols of time’s passage and the aging of love into something deeply beautiful. Atop these barrels rested lush floral arrangements, their colors and fragrances mingling with the crisp autumn air. Long farm benches and cream throw blankets welcomed guests to this picturesque setting, offering them a front-row seat to the union of Tori and Corey against the stunning backdrop of nature’s autumnal tapestry!

After the ceremony, guests made their way to Mountain Top Resort’s Event Barn, which was perfectly decorated for the occasion. The couple’s planner, Zoey Zariole, and Meadow’s Edge Floral Design dreamt up a romantic atmosphere complete with plenty of string lights, sleek votive candles, gold tea lights, and rich burgundy table runners. As a charming tribute to autumn, the couple opted to use petite, ivory pumpkins as their escort cards, adorably displaying the names of their esteemed guests and corresponding table numbers.

Following a night of lively dancing, guests had the opportunity to indulge their cravings for something sweet by savoring a delectable two-tiered cake crafted by Sweet Vermont Treats. We love the nods to Tori’s wedding bouquet that adorned the cake’s buttercream exterior.

Tori and Corey’s special day was so enchanting that the couple plan on moving to Vermont one day. Congratulations Tori and Corey on your beautiful Vermont wedding!

Meet Wedding Photographer, Geoff, of Portrait Gallery

Welcome to our latest Meet The Pros post, where we learn more about the talented wedding professionals who make up our beautiful little state! Today we’re thrilled to introduce you to Geoff, the wedding photographer behind Portrait Gallery, renowned for his breathtaking wedding photography. With an eye for the romantic, the candid, and the unforgettable moments that make each wedding unique, Portrait Gallery has built a portfolio that’s nothing short of awe-inspiring. Whether you’re a bride-to-be, a fellow wedding professional, or just a lover of beautiful stories keep reading for Geoff’s story and his top photography tips.

How did you get into wedding photography?

I picked up photography in college. I tried Graphic Design and Video, but photography always felt so natural.

How would you describe your photography style?

My photography style is deeply rooted in capturing moments as they naturally unfold, aiming to seize the genuine, candid expressions and interactions that happen organically. This spontaneity brings a truthful and raw element to my images, showcasing real emotions and the unique essence of the moment. While I prioritize these unguarded snapshots of life, I also incorporate a playful and imaginative approach, especially during sessions that may require a bit of direction. I’ll guide couples, encouraging moments that, while slightly orchestrated, feel entirely natural and spirited.

This blend of candid photography with creative nudges allows me to produce a diverse array of images that are not only authentic and full of life but also imbued with a touch of whimsy and inventiveness!

What inspires your work?

As a photographer, my work is definitely rooted in the magic of great lighting and the artistry of optics.  Light, in its endless forms, breathes life into my subjects, whether it be the soft glow of morning light that caresses the landscape or the dramatic interplay of shadows and illumination that defines the texture and depth of portraits.

Any special tips for couples for choosing/working with a wedding photographer?

Choosing and working with a wedding photographer is a critical aspect of your big day. Photographers capture moments that you’ll cherish for a lifetime, so it’s important to select someone whose style aligns with your vision and expectations. My biggest piece of advice is to ask for an entire wedding gallery (or two) That is the true test of what photographer really matches the vision you have for your full wedding day! Then, meet with your favorites to continue the conversation.

What’s your favorite moment during a wedding?

I always love the first look with Dad, the first look as a couple, the first dance. All of the “firsts”! They always create sheer, raw emotions!

What’s your favorite thing to do in VT? / Local spot to visit?

I love visiting with family at our camp on Lake Champlain. It is located in Charlotte and dates back to the 30s! I have fond memories of BBQs and potluck dinners.

If you weren’t a wedding photographer what would you do?

Great question! I would probably be a trainer at a gym.

What’s a fun fact about yourself, Geoff?

I love PBS Masterpiece shows, and horror movies. I love barrel-aged stouts and Thai food. I play Dungeons and Dragons in my spare time. My wife and I have a sweet, 3-legged beagle named Mama.

Thank you, Geoff! Learn more about Geoff and his work by visiting the Portrait Gallery‘s Vendor Profile in our Vendor Guide.
